Tosca Olinsky (1909- 1984) was born in Florence, Italy. She was the daughter of Ivan G. and Genevieve Karfunckel Olinsky. She graduated from the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League.

She was a resident of Old Lyme for many years. Tosca Olinsky helped to organize the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts and was one of its first instructors. She was married to Charles F. Barteau.

In 1945 she had a one-woman show of still-lifes and portraits at the Grand Central Galleries. She also exhibited in a one-woman show at the Lyman Allyn Museum in 1958. Her work was also exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Allied Artists, Audubon Artists, and the American Water Color Society.

She was awarded the National Arts Club prize in 1936, 1937, 1939, and 1941, the Third Halligarten prize from the National Academy of Design from 1938-1943, the Allied Artist prize in 1940, Menicion Honorifica Instituto de Allende in Mexico in 1950; Gloria Layton prize from Allied Artists in 1960 and the Salmagundi Club prize for oil at the Allied Artist Show in 1972.

She was a member of the American Water Color Society, the Audubon Artists, the Allied Artists, and the Lyme Art Association.

She died on June 14, 1984 in her home at Beckwith Lane in Old Lyme.
