F. Luis Mora
Painter, illustrator
(1874–1940)
Mora was the son of Spanish sculptor, Domingo Mora, who emigrated with his family to the U.S. in 1880. He was an illustrator for Harper's Weekly. He traveled and painted in the American West, and worked as a WPA artist. He taught at William Merrit Chase's New York Art Academy, the Grand Central Art School, and at the Art Students' League.
Visited Old Lyme in September 1910, through friendship with Frank Vincent DuMond and Helen Savier DuMond. Also friends with Harry Hoffman. Mora later settled in Gaylordsville, in the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut. Mora's pocket diary indicates that he was in Old Lyme from September 7-12, 1910.
