Ralph & James Clews
Earthenware Potters
British,
(1818–1834)
James and Ralph Clews worked in the Staffordshire pottery district in Cobridge, England. They are often described as "Potters to Her Imperial Majesty, the Empress of all the Russians." The firm became bankrupt around 1835.
An impressed mark is often found on good quality blue transfer-printed earthenwares. Then wording often reads "Clews Warranted Staffordshire." Original marks are quite blurry.
