Lyme Art Colony
(1884–1974) In Lyme: 1916-1974
Caroline Alden Weir Ely (Mrs. G. Page Ely) who was an etcher, bookbinder, and pastelist was born in New York City in 1884. She was the daughter of J. Alden Weir. She studied under Helen Noyes in New York City and Maylander and others in Paris.

An etching of St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City and a series of etchings depicting ospreys in their nests in Old Lyme are her most well-known works. She was also known for her bookbindings in leather with gold tooling or inlay. She also did pastel landscapes, still lifes, and travel scenes.

She was a member of the Old Lyme Art Association. She exhibited the Guild of Book Workers, New York City and the Old Lyme Art Association. She and her husband were active in the Florence Griswold Association; Lyme Historical Society.
