Woodhull Adams (1854-1921) was born in Newark, New Jersey on November 2, 1854. He married Helen Minot Shaw on October 3, 1898. He was a landscape painter. His work was exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1886. His paintings were also exhibited in Old Lyme from 1917-1922. He was a member of the Salmagundi Club in 1900. His painting "At Miss Florenceā€™s" was exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1924. In addition to Old Lyme, Adams painted around Hanover, New Hampshire. The Hood Museum in Hanover owns some of his paintings
