Lydia Longacre (1870-1951) was born on September 1, 1870 in New York City. She is best known for her miniature paintings. She studied at the Art Students League in New York under Chase and Mowbray and studied under Whistler in Paris. She was the sister of painter Breta Longacre.
She was a member of the American Society of Miniature Painters, the Pennsylvania Society of Miniature Painters, and the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors.
Longacre exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, 1916, the Pennsylvania Society of Miniature Painters (Medal of Honor) in 1939 and at the World’s Fair, New York in 1939. She was a member of the Lyme Art Colony. She also exhibited at the Lyme Art Association in the following years: 1911-15, 1917-24, 1926, 1927, 1929, 1933, 1936-38, 1940, 1942, 1943, 1948, and 1951.
Lydia Longacre died on June 19, 1951 in Old Lyme, Connecticut.
