Richard J. Montague
(November 4, 1888–before 1959)
In Lyme: 1924-1928
Richard Montague and his wife owned a house on Sill Lane during their stay in Lyme in the mid 1920s. He called the property "Sunnymarsh". A decade earlier, he had studied art with Henry Ward Ranger in Noank, which Montague visited from 1913-1915. When he exhibited his paintings in New York in early 1916, it was noted that many of the pictures depicted Noank in the Barbizon style, reminiscent of Ranger's work.
