Abram Poole was born in Chicago in 1882. In 1904 he graduated from Princeton University then went abroad to study at the Royal Academy in Munich, then at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and also at the Sorbonne. He received bronze and silver medals in competition at Munich.

He was called to service in the 102d Infantry Regiment during World War I, and was a battalion commander.

Mr Poole was elected a member of the art department at the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1930. In 1933, he was elected an associate member of the National Academy of Design.

The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts awarded Poole the Walter Lippinscott prize for best figure painting in their 1930 exhibition. Twice he won the Altman prize for figure painting at the National Academy of Design.

Poole was a member of the New York Society of Painters, the Chicago Club, and the Century Club. He died in Old Lyme, Connecticut on May 24, 1961.
