John Ludlow Morton was a working artist by the time he was in his early 20s, when his view of the Susquehanna River was engraved for a publication called Port Folio. From his mid-20s until he was nearly 70, he lived in New York City and exhibited frequently at the National Academy of Design (he was made a full member when he was 39). He died in Manhattan.
