William Merritt Post was born in Brooklyn, New York, studied at the Art Students League, and was an active landscape artist by his early 30s. He won an Honorable Mention at the Buffalo Exposition of 1901, and was made an associate member of the National Academy of Design in his mid-50s. His specialty remained landscapes throughout a long career. His last known address was Bantam, Connecticut.
