A black painted side chair with bow front, spiral stiles and a lyre-shaped back. The back and front sections of the seat appear to have been covered with a thin coating of papier mache and inset with Mother-of-Pearl floral decorations. Gold painted garland-like details are interspersed with the Mother-of-Pearl insets. The stuffed seat is embriodered with red and cream yarn in a geometric pattern. This chair is from the home of Charles C.Griswold in Black Hall (Old Lyme).
