Curel-Sylvestre worked in Lyme during the 1920s, renting a studio in a barn across from the Griswold House, at the Old Lyme Inn. This landscape of 1928 represents a kinship in terms of subject matter with the earlier Impressionists, but shows the influence of modernism through its use of color and elongated forms. Curel-Sylvestre also appears to have tinted the frame purple to compliment the painting.
