Charles Ebert, American, (July 21, 1873–October 2, 1959)

Medium and Support: oil on canvas
Credit Line: Florence Griswold Museum; Gift of Miss Elisabeth Ebert
Accession Number: 1977.18.13
A coastal scene showing a red warehouse or mill building on a rocky point of land which runs along the coast, a sailboat is moored in an inlet infront and there is a bridge in the distance on the right. This is a view of the Palmer and Duff Shipyard in Cos Cob, near the Holley family's boardinghouse where artists painting in town stayed.

The vibrant color palette of the painting suggests that it may have been painted after 1913, when Ebert would have seen work by the Fauvists at the Armory Show.
