A wooden dome topped box covered with tooled leather. It has a cast iron top handle, lock and clasp which are fastened with cotter pins. The inside of the box is lined with newspaper listings of tea shipments and religious tracts. Written on the bottom in ink is "Rev. J. Anderson, once belonging to Dr. A- My grandfather from Scotland." Donor believes it was a medicine box. Dr. Anderson was a ships surgeon who settled in Lyme in the mid-18th century.
