One of a set of plates used for the Lyme Art Association teas. The gallery, adjacent to the Griswold House, opened in 1921. Prior to 1921, the artists held exhibitions at the public library. Teas were, for a time, held every afternoon in the summer, but later settled in a twice-a-week schedule. In 1982, after flooding caused severe damage to the gallery, the tea sets and other memorabilia were sold to raise money for repairs.
