Yacht Race depicts a Star Class boat race off Rockport, Massachusetts circa 1935. According to a participant, Reynolds Beal, Gifford's brother and a fellow artist was among the racers. Mrs. Gifford Beal can be seen among the spectators wearing a fur collar. This composition is a study for a larger oil on canvas.
