A low horizon with a field in the immediate foreground and a tree-lined hillside in the middle distance give way to a blue sky filled with voluminous clouds. The influence of the cloud pictures of Charles Davis and Henry Ward Ranger, done at about this same time seem to be at work here, judging from the compositional and painterly similarities.
