This is a Chippendale tilt-top tea table which was owned by William Mitchell who was the grandfather of Sarah Lord of Lyme. It has bird-cage with 4 vase-shaped supports, an urn-shaped pedestal, and 3 cabriole legs which end in claw and ball feet, which are flattened. The knee of each leg is intricately carved in a shell and bellflower motif which suggests a New York origin.
