Three distinct forms emerge from Sillman’s arrangement of fl®®che units in this
study. While the diagonal bands appear uniform throughout this composition, six
horizontal breaks are noted upon thorough inspection. Sillman achieves these gaps
by making some of the fl®®che forms near the break slightly smaller than the others.
The deviation is difficult to perceive without close attention by the viewer, owing to
the careful planning of the artist.
