Thin bands of silver metallic paint punctuate the light edges of several fleche forms
in Constellation: Xerxes, negating the glowing effect that appears in many of Sillman’s
late works. Sillman occasionally used silver, as in the scratchboard and screenprint
in the first gallery, in a manner akin to Renaissance artists who adorned altarpieces
with precious gold leaf.
