A wooden banding plane with two iron blades. A brass thumb screw in the top of the plane controls a movable iron bar in the sole of the plane. This bar is an adjustable depth stop. A banding plane was used to cut a single band or groove into a piece of wood. It is inscribed to Thomas L. Appleton, Boston."
