The Bacon House was a boarding house on Ferry Road in Old Lyme where Voorhees and other artists stayed during visits prior to boarding at the Griswold House. The Bacon House later became Ferry Tavern, a popular restaurant and nightspot. It was destroyed by fire in the 1970s. This drawing also shows a large shad nets drying on a rack. Shad fishing in the Connecticut River occurs in the late Spring/early Summer each year.
