Work was done in the Cape Ann Region of Massachusetts where Hunt often went with his students. William Morris Hunt was the earliest proponenet of Barbizon painting in America (Innes was later but also important) and his teachings and writings were a major influence on a generation of American landscape painters such as Henry Ward Ranger, and others that came to Old Lyme.
