Henry C. White first studied art in his native city of Hartford with Dwight Tryon. Tryon was his artistic mentor and lifelong friend. "Morning in May" evokes the delicate atmospheric effects that both Tryon and White were so noted for. While White's oil paintigns were usually executed in the studio, the artist produced pastels such as these en plein air.
