Highlighted by a dazzling display of blue-green and blonde hues, this painting retains a sketched-on-the-spot freshness, a quality highly prized by American Impressionists. The artist, an Augusta, Maine native, probably painted this while on one of the many sketching and fishing trips that he and other Lyme artists took to Maine to escape the late summer humidity of the Connecticut shore. Ogunquit at that time was a popular haven for landscape artists.
