A Staffordshire plate with transfer-printed blue decoration celebrating the independence of America. It depicts Washington, blind justice and the goddess of liberty ringed in a banner with the names of 15 states. The plate is earthenware with a lead glaze and was made at
the pottery of Ralph & James Clews at Cobridge, Staffordshire.
