Warner spent much creative energy on his prints which received prominent recognition during his life. For two decades he experimented with different techniques and materials, often reworking his compositions and printing several states of each plate. Most editions were pritned on several kinds of paper and with different inks.

Shortly after World War I, Warner purchased his own press and did his own printing in Pittsburgh. He taught etching classes at the Carnegie Institute of Technology and wrote a manual on etching.
