Abigail Noyes was the sister of William Noyes, Jr. She married John Lee Sill, born in Albany, New York, but descended from the Sill family of Lyme. They were given a parcel of land from Squire William on which to build a house. In 1816, Sill also contracted with Samuel Belcher and the house we now know as the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts was built. Sill became embroiled in a legal battle with the U.S. Customs Department and was arrested for smuggling. His brother-in-law William, Jr. signed the bond for his release, thus making him dually responsible for the debt. Sill jumped bond, leaving Noyes Jr. fighting a lawsuit that, thought settled in his favor, would eventually cause him to sell his house and move away from Lyme. William Jr., his family, and his sister Abigail moved to Albany New York, but without John Sill, who was reported to have lived out the rest of his life in Port Chester, New York.
