Medium and Support: metal on wood
Credit Line: Florence Griswold Museum;
Large standing easel, wood frame with metal hardware. Resting on 4 metal and wood casters (casing is metal, wheels are wood). The "central spine" has 2 channels where a wood box with 2 adjustment tools on the upper portion of the easel are able to move up and down also my the tightening/loosening of a large wood screw which secures the box in a given height along the spine, possibly used to hold hold a canvas in place when painting. A large threaded metal pole/rod runs along the back of the easel, is conected to gears, and a metal crank in the front with a wood handle adjusts the height of the shel/canvas support. The shelf to rest the canvas is about 5 1/2" in depth, has a slight lip, heavily marked with paint, below this is a recessed compartment.
