Florence Griswold Museum, Gift of The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company
The themes of both music and water were to be a continuing influence in Harriet Whitney Frishmuth's artistic career. This bronze figure is an early example of what she called "Liberated Lyricism". Legend tells that model Janette Ransome was asked to show her reaction to an icy stream of water pouring on her feet. The resulting pose is "Joy of the Waters"
