A view of Ferry Point painted from the Chadwick estate in Old Lyme. The work shows a dirt lane with a wooden post and rail fence, a hillock jutting into the Connecticut River, several houses lining the bank of the River, and several small row boats and sailing craft moored in a cove. The opposite shore merges with the light blue shy, ending at the Saybrook Point lighthouse. Ferry Road was the first highway in Lyme, built in 1666, to connect the village and ferry. This view was painted no later than 1870 at which time a permanent bridge was constructed to replace the ferry.
