"Saltbox by Moonlight" is a charming little picture, effective in its play of moonlight across the facade of a Connecticut saltbox. Both the subject and format (vertical with a worm's-eye perspective) are somewhat unusual for the artist.
Although there were scores of women artists in Old Lyme, Matilda Browne was one of the few female artists to be accepted as a near equal among the male members of the Colony.
