one of three chairs given to the Museum by Lucia Griswold, from the family of Governor Roger Griswold ca. 1810-1820. Fully restored painted black with gold paint, rush seat. A plaque on the back reads: "One of the chairs with which Governor Roger Griswold and his wife Fanny Rogers Griswold started housekeeping. They were Married October 27, 1788. Presented to Elizabeth Griswold Marsh and Roger Wolcott Griswold on their marriage Sept. 27, 1924. by his aunts Marian, Phebe, and Ellen E. Griswold" Inscription incorrect as chairs date from 1810-1820, not 1788. Chairs were probably ones that Matthew and Phebe H. Griswold began married life with in 1827. (ie, Gov. R. Griswold's son).
