Emphasizing the paoramic sweep of the land, Irvine adds interest with his complementary color choices and daubed and speckled paint application. It iwas in this period that Irvine developed his prismatic style using a technique that involved looking at his subjects through prisms attached to his eyeglasses. One of the artist's reviewers noted in 1934 that this process not only augmented "the color 'truth' and richness of the painting, but also increase[d] the feeling of a third dimension."
