A wooden plane with a single blade. It has a wooden plate called a fence, which screws onto the sole of the plane. This fence regulates the width of the cut made by the plane. A brass thumbscrew operates a brass stop on the side of the plane to regulate the depth of the cut. Banding planes were used to make a single groove or band in a piece of wood.
