A pieced quilt in subdued tones of red and brown cotton. The central square is a block pattern. it is backed with a red copperplate patterned linen showing classical figures in oval medallions. The initials "J.L." and "S" have been embroidered in cross-stitch on the back. The donor believed the quilt was made by a member of the Lay family.
