Image of a peasant woman polishing pewter. Rudolf Scheffler discovered Lyme in the late 1920's. With his wife Hazel they bought a small cottage just off Route 156 and, much to the delight of children from the neighborhood, transformed their home with hundreds of objects of his own design - painted furniture, carved wood toys and garden sculpture - that created a private world linking art and nature.
