Two reels of a silent film showing the artists George Bruestle, Ivan Olinsky, Edward Volkert, Eugene Higgins & his wife, and Percival Rosseau painting in their studios, en plein air, and around their houses in Lyme. The film also shows Florence Griswold at her house, in her garden and at the Lyme Art Association.
This film represents a rare glimpse of the personal environments in which Florence Griswold and the Lyme artists interacted with one another, their families, and friends. Not only does the film convey an alluring sense of country life here, but it documents the appearance of the Lyme Landscape during the 1930s. Filmed during the waning years of the Lyme Art Colony and only a couple of years before Miss Florence died, this film is a valuable document of a changing landscape and ,poignantly, the only known film footage of Florence Griswold.
