A Chinese export porcelain cup which is part of a large set of antique green Fitzhugh porcelain bearing a gold initial "G" for Griswold. The handle is square with a curved extension at the top. This set descended in the Richard Sill Griswold family. Richard Sill Griswold (1809-1849) graduated from Yale in 1829 and went to China as his father's agent in the shipping firm of N.L. & G. Griswold, merchants in the China Trade. He lived in China for several years before returning to America. He built the home called Boxwood in Old Lyme.
