A Staffordshire plate depicting a man and a maiden in the buttery in a blue transfer print. The plate is earthenware with a lead glaze made at the pottery of Ralph & James Clews in Cobridge, Staffordshire. Mark on verso reads "Dr. Syntax and Dairymaid"
