Wooden hat block studded with nails. Boghosian salvaged items like this and other materials for his assemblages from sources that included old factories and junk shops. Relates to work the artist did on the story of Orpheus.

Introduced to it by teacher, translator, and poet Constance Carrier, Boghosian was inspired by the myth of Orpheus and made it an ongoing motif in his work. Born of Apollo and Zeus's daugther Calliope, Orpheus became expert at playing the lyre given to him by his father. He fell in love with Eurydice, and when she died from a snake bite he used his lyre to charm the gods with song so he could attempt to bring her back from the underworld. Allowed to pass on the condition that he should not look back until he and Eurydice were back above ground, Orpheus began to doubt their success. For reassurance, he turned his head to check on Eurydice, who faded away leaving him to return to earth alone. In grief, Orpheus scorned a group of beautiful women who responded by dismembering him. Still singing the name of Eurydice, his head floated toward the sea, eventually reaching the Isle of Lesbos as an oracle.
