The cradle or scythe is a wooden fork with 5 prongs and a long wooden handle. There would have been an iron cutting blade, but this one is missing. Cradles were used for harvesting grain. The iron blade cut the stalks which were caught by the forks and formed into neat piles for typing into bundles.
