This door panel, and its companion 1941.6b, were the first panels painted in the Griswold house. Lyme Art Colony founder Henry Ward Ranger painted the right side panel with a view of the bow bridge in moonlight. He then challenged his friend, fellow artist Henry Rankin Poore to complete the scene. Poore, who was know for his dog paintings, painted a hound dog howling at the moon.
