Dining Room Panel, East Wall; Florence Griswold Museum. View of a country lane on a bright, sunny, summer's day.
This panel is double-sided, with a composition by Robert Fullonton on the back. According to tradition, when Fullonton did not pay his bill to Florence Griswold, the artists turned his painting around and Chadwick painted a new picture on the other side.
A March 24, 1912, article in the Boston Globe shows a photograph of the east wall of the dining room in which the panel is shown as a blank, suggesting that Fullonton and Chadwick's paintings were done after this date. (see "Old Lyme Favored by Artists," Boston Globe, March 24, 1912, pg. SM3).
